Sculpture and the Japanese Garden

The carefully pruned evergreens define different spaces while the brilliant colored fall leaves flatten space into blocks of color.  Fall is my favorite time to visit the Japanese Garden in Portland.

Your beautiful photographs bring back happy memories of Kyoto, where I saw not only beautiful sand gardens, but also a garden that surely has the greatest expanse of moss in the world.

I loved Kyoto, too.

When I visit Portland's Japanese garden, I feel totally present, but I also remember walking through the beautiful temples and gardens of Kyoto.

I love Portland's Japanese garden. I haven't been there in a while, but your post inspires me to visit again, soon.

I didn't know there is such Japanese garden in US.
It's really nice . There are also many colored leaves around my house for now in Japan.

Granit, Portland's Japanese Garden was created in the early 1960's on the grounds of the old zoo. The designers came from Japan. It's one of the most beautiful things in a lovely city.
We also have a Chinese garden downtown. Very different but also lovely.
